About WSDC

The World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) are the world’s most prestigious school debating competition. Representative national teams compete over eight preliminary rounds and a finals series to be crowned World Champions. Australia has historically been the most successful nation at the tournament, having won nine times and been runner-up a further five times.

Mr Chris Erskine SC, former President of the Australian Debating Federation, founded WSDC in 1988. Since then, the event has grown to encompass over 60 countries, with participants from every continent. Past patrons of the Championships have included Nelson Mandela, Tony Blair and Desmond Tutu.
